Flying Shoring

The new Worksafe NZ Good Practice Guidelines for Excavation Safety July 2016, contains a great deal of valuable information about safe excavation practice, including methods not previously recognized in New Zealand.

Section 5.4 covers "Flying Shoring"

To do this, excavate to a maximum depth below the shoring, if:

  • the shoring is designed to resist the forces calculated for the full depth of the excavation, and

  • there are no indications, while the excavation is open, of instability below the bottom of the shoring
